Character Information
Name: Keith Kogane
Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender
Canon Point: Post Season 7, pulled after the Lions crash land back to planet Earth
Age: 21
History: Voltron Wiki

Personality: The universe throws a lot of curve balls, something Keith knows all too well. From the moment Keith lost his father, he was set on a path the likes of which he never could have expected. The loneliness that had followed this loss left him slow to trust. Volatile and explosive, Keith hid the hurts of having no one left for him in the world beneath anger and hostility. For too long Keith trusted in only himself to be reliable, and it made him guarded and deeply cautious about inviting people into his life. Directionless, Keith might have continued down a very dark path... if not for the arrival of Shiro.

The act of Shiro walking into Keith's classroom changed the course of Keith's life forever. He was the only one to ace the flight simulator in his class, much to his classmates' surprise (and jealousy) and Shiro recognized the spark of promise in Keith, even if his teacher didn't share the same faith. Overhearing their conversation and how his teacher dismissed him, Keith lashed out by stealing Shiro's car. Even after that Shiro still reached out to Keith, which was how he found himself enrolled in the Galaxy Garrison as a fighter pilot.

Shiro's mission to Kerberos once again tilted Keith off his axis. They called it a pilot error, said that Shiro and the other's were dead. Shiro, the closest person Keith had had to family in far too long suddenly just... gone. The best pilot he'd ever known, ever even heard of- there was no part of Keith that could accept what had happened, and so once again he reached to anger. Lashed out, and in turn, got himself kicked out of the Garrison for his bad behaviour. He spent the next year alone again, living in a shack in the desert and nursing a hope he just couldn't let go of, chasing an inexplicable feeling.

An energy called to him, one that at the time he couldn't have ever imagined what it would lead to. Keith obsessed over it, putting his everything into trying to uncover what it meant. Following cave drawings that he never could have dreamed would lead to giant robot lions.

The five of them were taken on a wild ride into space by the Blue Lion, setting them on course to become the defenders of the universe against the Galran invasion. The last bastion of hope in a galaxy more conquered than not. It was during this time too that Keith found out through the trials of Marmora that he was part alien- part Galra, to be exact. The very species inflicting pain and suffering upon the galaxy. Learning this caused strife within the group, and turmoil in Keith himself. It made him wonder at his place in the universe; at his place in Voltron. Seeded doubt in his own sense of identity and whether or not he could still be a good person while carrying the blood of the universes' conquerors. Still, through the trials, Keith came to the realization that it didn't matter if he was Galra or not. He could still be, and still was a good person, devoted to saving the universe. To protect those he had come to care about, and that was what mattered most. Not only this, but by meeting the Blades Keith too learned that not all Galra were monsters. That nothing in the universe was ever so black and white as an entire race being evil.

As the Paladin of the Red Lion, Keith finally begins to learn what it is to work as a member of a team- but he still had his moments of hotheaded impulsiveness, of acting rash and making snap decisions without necessarily thinking of the consequences. That started to change after their battle with Zarkon, and Shiro's disappearance. Being displaced from the Red Lion and chosen by the Black Lion to lead in his absence, Keith didn't believe himself capable of doing it, and it showed. He made poor decisions that put the team in danger on more than one occasion, trying to be what Shiro wanted him to be- and feeling as though he was failing. He stepped up as best he could, though, and opened his mind and heart to the rest of the teams' suggestions to try and improve. Still, when Shiro returned Keith felt... displaced. With Lance as the new pilot of the Red Lion, Keith decided to join the Blade of Marmora, and learn more about his heritage and maybe... just maybe find a lead to finding his mother.

Working with the Blades too was an act of Keith trying to prove something to himself, even if at the time he didn't really understand what that was until he at long last, reconnected with his mother Krolia. On a mission into deep space, they spent two years together on a giant space whale, and in that time Keith learned more than he could have ever expected. To find out that his mother had left in order to protect him brought with it the realization that even when Keith had thought he was all alone in the universe, he really.... wasn't. And that realization settled something deep inside of him, calming some of the anger that he had tempered into a shield to protect himself. These two years were what began to shape Keith as the capable leader he becomes by the end of the seventh season. He found the patience and focus that he had always so desperately tried to remind himself to have, and learned how important trust and faith in those he loves really matters. He wasn't alone anymore, never had been from the beginning. This gave him the confidence that he had been lacking, and had tried to make up for by acting out.

When he returns to lead Voltron after Shiro's clone is activated the difference was immediately clear. No longer did he make decisions for the group based on his emotions and anger alone, but instead could lead with a firm and sure voice. It was clear that the doubts he had once had in himself about being able to lead no longer existed- he stepped into the role with poise and grace that he had lacked his first time in the Black Lion's seat. He is still willing to give everything he has, everything he is in order to protect the Earth, but now he knows how to reign in his temper and impulsiveness, to think tactically instead of simply rushing in.

Only his bond with Shiro ever really clouds his judgement. So devoted to the older man is he that even when he should have let go of the clone of him that had been attacking him to kill him in order to save himself, Keith couldn't. For so long, Shiro had been the only one to ever believe in Keith. The only one who believed he could be the leader he becomes- and he is unwilling to let that go. Loyal to a fault, Keith even goes so far as to refuse to give up on Shiro in death, and with Princess Allura's help, drags him back from it.

In summary, Keith began life as an angry little boy who believed he had nothing but himself to rely on in the universe- and even once he found himself surrounded by allies, it took him time to open up to the idea of friends, and trust. He tried desperately to guard himself, his feelings, his heart- but ultimately has always worn them on his sleeve; betrayed by the chip on his shoulder and his own temper. He still lashes out on occasion, but his hotheadedness has been reeled in, to a large extent from what we witnessed from him in season one. If you fall under the umbrella of people he cares about, he is endlessly loyal, and willing to risk his own life if it means saving someone- or something- that he loves. He was willing to sacrifice his own life in order to save the people of Earth from the attack of the mysterious mech.

Keith is endlessly stubborn, and once he has set his mind to what he believes is the right course of action, it can be very difficult for someone else to change his mind on the matter. He can be pragmatic, but only after quelling his initial emotional outburst regarding a situation. Still, he's also very tactical. Having grown into his position as leader of Voltron, so too has he come to acknowledge the importance of weighing options and cost.

Abilities & Skills: Keith is an extremely skilled fighter, especially with pretty much any blade you put in his hands. Keith is also an excellent pilot, gaining above average scores during his time at the Garrison, and excelling behind the wheel of any vehicle he's ever been put behind.

Inventory/Companions: Kosmo, his cosmic space wolf, his Red Paladin Armor, his Red Bayard (Which no longer transforms into his sword, which he'll be bummed and confused about!), and his Blade of Marmora which he never leaves home without!

Choice: Witch
Reason: Keith's greatest weakness has always been creating bonds with other people; he builds them slowly, but deeply, and I would love to explore that with the facet of his bond giving strength to monsters. Monster seems a much easier path for Keith, which is why I'd like to explore Witch and see how he transforms even further from how we've seen him start to open up at the point in the series he has been pulled from and learn both magic and how to imbue and share it with others for a positive effect.
